Venturi Cardiology, the independent heart health clinic which opened in the North West five months ago, has launched a new respiratory service to help people who have had Covid.

The Warrington-based clinic has partnered with expert respiratory consultants Dr Sarah Sibley and Dr Dennis Wat to extend their offering.

Consultations and a range of diagnostic packages for those with respiratory conditions are now available. The packages include post-Covid recovery, a respiratory health check and a specialist chest infections package supporting those with acute or recurring chest infections.

Venturi also hosted a free online event for those struggling with the symptoms of Covid. The event included a Q&A. Venturi’s in-house cardiology and respiratory consultants discussed the treatment options for a variety of symptoms. Click here to download a playback of the event.

New research has revealed that over two million people in the UK are suffering from long-Covid and, with winter on the way and pressures on the NHS increasing, the numbers of patients with respiratory conditions are rising all the time.

The clinic has been kitted out with state-of-the art equipment, including a GE Rev CT scanner, which checks for heart disease and blockages in the arteries as well as CT scans of the chest for those with breathing difficulties or respiratory illnesses. This imaging technology is often used when other methods of diagnosis have been inconclusive.

Dr Scott Murray, one of Venturi’s founders and clinical director said:

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Dr Sarah Sibley and Dr Dennis Wat to the Venturi team. They bring with them a wealth of experience and expertise in respiratory medicine, including specialist areas such as COPD, asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and interstitial lung disease.

“We know there are so many people out there suffering with long-Covid and post-Covid symptoms and other respiratory conditions and we want to give them the same easy and rapid access to expert advice and diagnostics that we give to our cardiac patients.

“We are also aware that those who have had long Covid or indeed, other acute breathing related illnesses, have concerns about possible damage and scarring to their heart. Having respiratory and cardiology consultants all under one roof, expanding our suite of services, is a natural fit for our growing clinic.”

Respiratory consultant Dr Sarah Sibley is passionate about improving the care of patients with respiratory disease at all stages of their condition. She said:

“Many patients develop symptoms like breathlessness that could be caused by problems with either their heart or lungs. It makes a lot of sense to provide both cardiology and respiratory expertise all under one roof to diagnose problems quickly and get treatment started.

“We’ve all faced unexpected challenges over the last 2 years, and I hope that this new respiratory service will allow patients to get quick access to world class care for either an existing health problem or a new concern.”

Dr Dennis Wat said:

“The Covid-19 pandemic is having a devastating impact on human health and is revealing gaps in respiratory care that require urgent attention. We are working to ensure better care is central to patients with respiratory needs as part of the recovery plans.”

Venturi Cardiology is on a mission to make world-class heart and respiratory care accessible, affordable and more personalised.

The clinic was officially opened in June by former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba and Hits Radio presenter Gemma Atkinson.

Sporting legends Martin Johnson, Robbie Fowler and John Barnes recently underwent cutting edge heart screening tests at Venturi to raise awareness of World Heart Day.
