CT Thorax

What is a CT thorax?

The CT scanner takes many images of the organs and structures inside your chest and then the computer puts them together so that the consultant can see a 360-degree view of everything inside your chest.

How should I prepare for this test?

There is no special preparation for this scan. However, it is recommended that you do not smoke for at least four hours before it takes place. Whilst there are no injections it is advisable to wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing.

What to expect during a CT thorax?

On the day you will be asked to remove your clothing on the top half of your body, and you will be given a gown to wear. You will be asked to lie on the scanner. You’ll be alone in the scan room during the scan, but our friendly experts will always be able to speak to you and hear you. The scan should take no more than 15-20 minutes and you will be given the results straight away.
